Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 10 drops of red food coloring
  • 10 drops of blue food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  2. Sift in flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture; stir until combined. Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Divide chilled dough into three portions: leave one plain and color the others with red and blue food coloring by kneading until evenly colored.
  5. Roll small balls from each colored dough and combine them into one ball. Roll in powdered sugar twice for an even coating.
  6. Place on lined baking sheets with space between cookies and bake for 12-14 minutes until tops are crackly but soft in the center. Cool before serving.
