  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash the oranges and peel them carefully to remove the bright orange skin without the white pith. Slice into thin strips.
  2. Place the sliced peels in cold water; bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Drain and repeat 2-3 times to reduce bitterness.
  3. In a pot, combine water and sugar; bring to a gentle boil until sugar dissolves completely. Add salt, vanilla extract, or spices if desired.
  4. Add the boiled peels to the syrup. Cook over low heat for about 45 minutes until the peels are translucent and syrup thickens.
  5. Transfer peels onto a cooling rack lined with parchment paper. Allow to dry for several hours until tacky but not wet.
