  • 200 ml crème fraîche
  • 100 ml milk
  • 20 g butter
  • 150 g grated cheese (Comté, Emmental, or Gruyère)
  • 1 finely sliced onion
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • Fresh thyme and bay leaf
  • Salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Wash, peel, and thinly slice the potatoes.
  3. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat; sauté onions until translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together crème fraîche, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, thyme leaves, and bay leaf.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half of the potato slices followed by half of the cream mixture and half of the cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  6. Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown on top.
  7. Allow cooling for 10 minutes before serving.
