Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups sour cream (not nonfat; at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 4 tablespoons cold butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a nonstick angel food cake pan with cooking spray or grease and flour.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and mashed bananas.
  4. Gradually combine the dry mixture with the banana mixture while alternating with sour cream until just mixed. Fold in chocolate chips (if using).
  5. For the cream cheese filling, blend cream cheese with reserved batter until smooth.
  6. Layer the batter in the prepared pan starting with half the banana mixture, followed by the cream cheese mixture, then top with remaining batter.
  7. Prepare the streusel by combining walnuts, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cold butter until crumbly; sprinkle over the batter.
  8. Bake for about 55–60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
