  • For frosting: 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, 1 cup heavy cream, confectioners' sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round baking pans.
  2. In one bowl, combine dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat sugar and butter until creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time to the butter mixture. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine wet and dry mixtures while adding hot coffee until smooth.
  5. Divide batter between pans; bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Prepare pudding by mixing sugar, cornstarch, salt, and water in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
  7. For frosting, beat cream until stiff peaks form; melt chocolates together and mix with cream and softened butter until fluffy.
  8. Assemble the cake by layering with pudding filling and frosting.
